Calcium is an important mineral in any diet. It is especially important in an area where a lack of calcium affects the skeletal growth of a population. To address this problem, women in Jaba Chiefdom of Kaduna States were invited to attend a special educational and food demonstration programme where they learned of ways to enhance the amount of calcium in their daily diets. Various locally available foods were used with a variety of recipes to maintain interest in adhering to the diet.
The lab personnel of Hope for the Village Child took advantage of the event to carry out some chemical tests on children with rickets. These tests help to regulate the intake of calcium to ensure that the children are given the proper treatment.
